The theme of this pair of Menuki is Pigeon. Generally, the Pigeon is a symbol of peace because they live in large groups. However, in Japan, they were a symbol of military power because they were considered servants to the god of war, Hachiman. In this design, the Pigeon's eyes are round and well-crafted giving a sense of realism. |
