Other Info
The theme of this Tsuba is Hannya. Hannya is a mask of a female demon representing 'the face of a woman harboring jealousy and resentment used in a Noh play. The craftsman, Hashimoto Masanari, was active during the Mid Edo Period, and born in Sekiyado, Shimosa Province. He later moved to Edo where he improved his skills independently. This Tsuba was crafted from well-forged iron and the Hannya mask was inlayed by using the Suemon-zogan technique. It was likely used as a charm to protect from harm. It is a simple craft just made from iron, but is very impressive. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu.
