The theme of this Tsuba is Crane Hermit. This theme originates from a poem from written by a Chinese Dynasty, Cui Xiang. Once upon a time, a hermit appeared at a Sake shop. The shop owner continued to serve the hermit sake for several days without asking for payment. One day when the hermit visited the Sake shop and drew a yellow crane on the wall of the shop and then left. Mysteriously, the crane drawing starting to dance when drinking guests would clap and sing. The Sake Shop quickly became very popular and very prosperous. The shop owner became a rich man. One day the hermit appeared again at the shop. When he played a flute, the white clouds come down from the sky. The Yellow crane come out of the wall. The hermit mounted the crane and flew away into the white clouds never to return. This Tsuba depicts the hermit flying away on the crane. It is a skillfully crafted Tsuba. |
