Shikunshi, is a pattern combining four plants with noble beauty: plum, chrysanthemum, orchid, and bamboo. It has been favored as an auspicious pattern since ancient times, as it is considered to represent the noble qualities of a gentleman. This artisan, Yuzenkyo Mitsuchika [悠然居 光親], is a member of the Washida family [鷲田家]. He is the son of the second Washida Mitsutoki [鷲田光時] and learned from his father. He was the last master of the Washida school. He passed away in 1902 (Meiji 35) at the age of 79. He lived in Tsuruoka, Shonai [庄内鶴岡]. This work depicts the Shikunshi with gold and silver flat inlay with the Kosuki and Ke-bori engraving techniques. It is a sophisticated design. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2015. |
