| Shoki is a deity believed to ward off evil spirits and dispel demons. He is typically depicted with a long beard, wearing the attire of a Chinese official, holding a sword, and glaring fiercely with large eyes.The maker, Tenmin, was a student of Iwamoto Konju, who himself was a disciple of Iwamoto Konkan. Tenmin produced works depicting figures, deities, and characters, and his students included Shuraku and Ritsumin.This work is a signed fuchi-kashira by Tenmin, depicting a dignified Shoki rendered in katakiribori on a shibuichi migaki-ji ground. It passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu shinsa in November 2025. |
