| This fuchi-kashira set depicts a dragon emerging from swirling clouds, rendered in elegant katakiribori on a polished shakudō ground. Since ancient times, the dragon has been revered as a divine creature governing the heavens and bringing water and rain, and has long been regarded as a symbol of authority, good fortune, and prosperity.The artist Toshitake was a student of Sekibun and later moved to Edo, where he studied the techniques of the Nara school. Ōizumi, from which he signed his name, was the historical center of the Shōnai region.The composition is dignified and powerful, with the dragon appearing as if emerging from the clouds through graceful and fluid engraving. The refined workmanship and restrained decoration create an atmosphere of quiet elegance while successfully conveying the strength and majesty of the mythical creature.Passed the NBTHK Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2023. |
