| This fuchi-kashira by Goto Mitsusada features a design of Gods of Good Fortune. Goto Mitsusada was the same metalworker as Ryujo. After Kaijo (Mitsutsuna), the fourth master of the Shichirobei family, passed away, Mitsusada succeeded as the fifth master and assumed the name Shichirobei. He left behind the Goto Hisho, a written record of the carving techniques of the early generations of the main Goto family. He lived in Kyoto and passed away in Kyoho 8 (1723).The kashira depicts Shigetsu Hotei, showing Hotei, a God of Good Fortune associated with good luck and happiness, pointing toward the moon. The fuchi depicts Daikokuten leading an ox laden with bales of rice. Daikokuten is a God of Good Fortune traditionally associated with abundant harvests and prosperity. In addition to the finely executed inlay and gold iroe, the edges are also finished in gold iroe, giving the set a brilliant yet dignified appearance. It passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2025. |
