| The Yanagawa school was a school of Edo-period metalworkers that developed under Yanagawa Naomasa, a renowned student of Yokoya Somin. The school specialized in takabori and iroe on shakudo nanako grounds and flourished until the late Edo period, producing works characterized by fine carving techniques and refined designs. This fuchi-kashira depicts bamboo stems and leaves in takabori and iroe on a finely worked shakudo nanako ground. The kashira features gracefully arranged slender bamboo leaves, while the fuchi depicts bamboo stems with distinct nodes and leaves extending to both sides. The overlapping leaves and their veins are carefully rendered, and the skillful use of gold iroe creates a beautiful contrast with the dark shakudo nanako surface. The realistic depiction of bamboo and the refined workmanship combining intricate nanako with takabori and iroe are characteristic of the Yanagawa school. The elegant design, enhanced by the brilliance of gold iroe, makes this a distinguished Bamboo Design fuchi-kashira. In 2021, this fuchi-kashira was attributed to Den-Yanagawa and passed the NBTHK Hozon Tosogu shinsa. |
