This swordsmith, Osaki Yasumune, was a member of the Nihonto Tanrenkai. The members of the Nihonto Tanrenkai were swordsmiths who forged for military officers at the Yasukuni Shrine during WW2. All of these swordsmiths used the Mei of "Yasu." Yasumune was born in 1920 and passed away in 1997 at the age of 77. He became a member of the Nihonto Tanrenkai in 1937. He substituted forged work of 15 blades for Kajiyama Yasanori and other work 209 blades for Shimazaki Yasuoki. He stopped forging at the end of WW2 but resumed in 1971 and at the age of 51 he received the Mei of Yasumune by his teachers Shimazaki Yasuoki and Yakuwa Yasutake. This Katana was forged in his mature years of 62. The person who ordered this blade was a high ranked commissioner. It is evidence that this Katana is one of his masterpieces. |
