This katana has passed the Tokubetsu Kicho Token Shinsa in 1973, however, currently was appraised to be not authentic but actually forged by Kajihei. This can be shown by the Kao of this Katana. The background of Kajihei and the difference of the Kao is referred to in the book of "Kajihei Oshigata" written by Ikeda Suematsu. Kajihei was a disciple of Taikei Naotane. His real name was Hosoda Heijiro Naomitsu. He had the misfortune of forging in 1877 when the sword abolishment order was issued in Japan. In order to make a living he forged false masterpieces of famous and popular swordsmiths until around 1890. He was highly skilled in forging but because of the timing, he wasn't able to sign his own name. This Katana is robust and gives a strong impression. It closely resembles Taikei Naotane of the high skills of the work of the Soshuden Tradition. |
