Other Info
Echigo no Kami Kanesada (1st generation) was a swordsmith of the Yamato Tegai tradition who was active in Osaka, Settsu Province, during the early Edo period. Originally from Yamato Province, he moved to Osaka and studied under Iga no Kami Kanemichi (1st generation), who was also from Yamato. He was the master of the second-generation Echigo no Kami Kanesada, who later changed his name to Sakakura Gonnojō Terukane. This katana is an imposing work of ample length, with a beautifully balanced curvature and an ubu nakago preserved in exceptionally fine condition. The hamon features a high-tempered gunome-midare mixed with choji, accompanied by a suguha yakidashi and ko-nie. It is a fine example displaying refined craftsmanship, meticulous forging, and an elegant style. The sword is accompanied by a high-quality uchigatana koshirae with a black roiro lacquered saya. It was registered in Kochi Prefecture in 1951 and passed the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2021.
