This antique percussion rifle may be difficult to export outside of Japan. The Mei is illegible. The percussion gun differs from the Matchlock gun. It didn't require a flame and went off by hitting the cap. Percussion guns were imported from outside Japan in great numbers, replacing the matchlock guns during the end of the Edo Period. There were some percussion guns made in Japan. They were made by remodeling matchlock guns or made in the same style. This percussion rifle was a remodel of a matchlock gun. There are many ornamental inlay and plates on the barrel and stock. There is a Mei on the barrel but unfortunately it is not readable. It is in a good condition and the mechanism is in working order. |
