Other Info
Shigetsu Hotei is a Zen Buddhist motif illustrating a well-known teaching. The moon symbolizes the perfect state of enlightenment, while the pointing finger represents the Buddhist scriptures. The theme conveys that enlightenment, like the distant moon, cannot be attained merely by reading the scriptures; rather, it requires long and disciplined spiritual practice. The metalworker Eizui was a student of Hamano Kunzui and worked in Edo during the late Edo period.Passed the NBTHK Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2021.
