It is used as a dashi-menuki, exposed menuki without wrapping the handle thread. Older examples often feature a shakudo base with nanako pattern and a paulownia crest. This piece is a shakudo ishime-ji surface finish with a paulownia crest tsubogasa type menuki. While the paulownia crest lacks mugi-tagane chiseling and was not by Gotō, the reverse in-yo-kon, root shape indicates an earlier period. It was appraised as a ko-kinko metalwork piece and It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2013. |
