A rare set of sansō menuki depicting paulownia and chrysanthemum crests. The design features a central paulownia crest flanked by chrysanthemum crests, creating a composition of refined elegance and dignity. In Japanese tradition, the paulownia symbolizes prosperity, while the chrysanthemum represents longevity; both have long been cherished as auspicious motifs.Executed in shakudō nanako ground with gold iroe, the menuki display a refined and highly sophisticated workmanship. The well-balanced and symmetrical composition makes them particularly suitable for a formal tantō koshirae.The workmanship is considered characteristic of the Kyō-kinkō school.
