This tsuba features a distinctive and unique carving of a plum tree on the surface, known as kou-sukibori. Kou-sukibori technique is characteristic of the work of Funada Ikkin [船田一琴], a native of Shonai, Dewa Province, who was a highly disciple of Goto Ichijo [後藤一乗] and a craftsman employed by the Sakai Domain in Shonai. This tsuba was thought to be made by a metal worker of Ikkin school. It is mumei, but has been attributed to the Shonai and passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2019. |
