Chiken have been kept since ancient times as livestock, providing meat, eggs, and feathers. They are also familiar creatures, as the first rooster crows at dawn, signaling the awakening of the morning. A rooster crowing into the dawn sky is called "Totenkou [東天紅]" (red in the east from the crimson eastern sky), and the term has come to refer to chickens themselves. This tsuba depicts two roosters with fluttering tail feathers in a powerful manner using Nikubori ji-sukashi techniques. |
