The turtle with algae on its shell is called Mino-game, and is an auspicious image symbolizing longevity. Jurojin is also the god of longevity. These two are depicted together as symbols of immortality and longevity. This tuba was made of shibu-inch polished ground with a figure emerging from the mouth of the Mino-game. On the back, Jurojin's possessions, a gunbai fan that wards off misfortune and a sacred jewel that grants wishes, were depicted, suggesting that the figure is Jurojin. This is an auspicious image symbolizing longevity. The metal worker, Itteisai Yoshinao [一鼎斎良直], was a disciple of Hamano Naoyuki [浜野直随]. He was a metalworker in Echigo Province in the late Edo period. This tsuba passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in May 2025. |
