| Tsuba depicting a kingfisher by the waterside, unsigned, attributed to the Mito school.Made of shakudō with an ishime-ji (stone-textured) ground, tate-marugata (vertical round) form.Decorated in sukidashi takabori relief carving with iroe (colored metal) inlay, featuring kaku-mimi ko-niku (slightly rounded square rim). Although the appraisal paper describes the design as “an egret by the waterside,” the bird perched on the branch is rendered in gold with refined and elegant detailing. From its form and coloration, it should more appropriately be identified as a kingfisher by the waterside. At the August 2025 tosogu shinsa, this piece, though unsigned, was conclusively attributed to the Mito school and successfully passed the Hozon Tōsōgu authentication. |
