Other Info
Akasaka tsuba are typically round in shape, forged with strong iron and a relatively thick plate, combining bold workmanship with the refined and stylish Edo aesthetic. Alongside the elegant and intricate Kyoto sukashi and the dignified, robust Owari sukashi tsuba, they remain highly popular. This piece features a maru-mimi rim, with the kozuka-hitsu and kogai-hitsu of differing sizes. The design depicts a flock of plovers, together with one goose and one butterfly, rendered in a refined and sophisticated openwork composition. The iron has developed a thick, rich patina, characteristic of mid-Edo period Akasaka work of high quality.Passed Hozon Tosogu shinsa in November 2025.
