| This tsuba was made by the swordsmith Hosokawa Tadayoshi, who was in the service of the Sakura Domain. Tadayoshi was the second son of Hosokawa Masayoshi and was born in Kanuma, Shimotsuke Province. During the Tenpō era (1830–1844), he entered the service of the Matsudaira family of Sakushū (Mimasaka Province) and later forged swords in the Sakura Domain together with his natural son, Yoshinori. Signed blades bearing Keiō-era dates (1865–1868) are known. He was buried at Daishō-in Temple in Kaburagi-chō, Sakura City. It passed the NBTHK Hozon Tōsōgu shinsa in February 2026. |
