| An unsigned iron tsuba attributed to the Hizen school. The aoi-mokkō-shaped iron plate is decorated with a vertical diamond-shaped paulownia crest motif, elegantly complemented by gold-inlaid karakusa scrolls, while additional karakusa ornamentation around the outer border creates a refined and dignified composition. The designs on both sides are harmoniously balanced, reflecting a delicate and sophisticated aesthetic. Although there is minor loss to the gold inlay due to age, it has developed a natural patina over time that enhances the tsuba's antique charm. Overall, it remains in excellent condition. It has passed the NBTHK Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2026. |
