| A large, thin iron tsuba of round form, featuring four stylized leaves arranged in the four directions and connected by slender diagonal latticework. The four large leaves are rendered in openwork, with fine brass inlay applied along their veins, while the spaces between them are connected by diagonal latticework. Despite its large dimensions of 8.38 cm high and 8.41 cm wide, the tsuba is relatively thin at 0.35 cm. The technique of applying brass inlay to an iron ground, together with its simple and archaic design, suggests an attribution to the Heianjo Zogan school. A tsuba with an elegant and distinctly antique character. |
