The cord-like elements, nearly the same thickness as the rim, cross and curve across the tsuba, with some sections branching into two. Rather than depicting a specific subject realistically, the round cords themselves are stylized into an abstract pattern, creating a simple yet powerful design. The iron has developed a rich patina with age, and traces of forging can be seen along the rim, adding further character to the piece. |
