This Naginatanaoshi-zukuri/shaped wakizashi is mumei, but has been attributed to "Kanenobu [兼延]" belonged to the Naoe-shizu [直江志津] school. Naoe Shizu is a school of swordsmiths who moved from Yamato Province to Shizu in Mino Province in the late Kamakura period and incorporated techniques from the Soshu Tradition, which was flourishing at the time, into their work from the Nanboku-cho period through the early Muromachi period. The hamon of this wakizashi shows gunome-midare consists of similar to Yahazu-ha and sunagashi which can be said to be "Den-Naoe Shizu," demonstrating the characteristics of Naoe Shizu. There are signs of repairs that appear to be umegane, but the work more than makes up for this. It passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in March 2025. |
