| This swordsmith, Iga no Kami Kinmichi (1st generation), was the elder son of Kanemichi, who was from Seki, Mino Province. They moved together as a family to Kyoto in 1593 with the second son Rai Kinmichi, third son Tanba no Kami Morimichi, and the fourth son Etchu no Kami Masatoshi. In Kyoto, Iga no Kami Kinmichi work for the Imperial court. In 1600, he forged 1,000 swords for Tokugawa Ieyasu to use in the battle of Sekigahara. Later, he became the top swordsmith in Japan and was allowed to engrave the Chrysanthemum family crest. He created the Mishina Tradition and took on the responsibility of overseeing it as the Soke. He passed away in 1629 at the age of 84. This Wakizashi is the Unokubizukuri shape, gives a robust impression and Keicho-shinto style; a practical usage sword. It is very healthy and and remains in a good condition. It shows the high-level of craftsmanship forged by Iga no Kami Kinmichi (1st generation). It comes with a Wakizashi style Koshirae with a black lacquer Saya. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2022. |
