| Kawachi no Kami Fujiwara Kunitsugu (1st Generation) studied sword forging under Masatomi, a swordsmith in Edo. He is said to have entered the service of the Sendai Date clan in Genna 6 (1620). He passed away in Manji 4 (1661). His surviving works are rare, and it is known that he resided in Natori District before the domain's swordsmiths came to settle in the castle town of Sendai. This wakizashi by Kawachi no Kami Fujiwara Kunitsugu has an elegant, well-proportioned sugata and an ubu nakago in exceptionally good condition. In 2026, this wakizashi passed the NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa. It is accompanied by a period wakizashi koshirae with a black stone-textured lacquered saya. |
