Other Info
Although unsigned, but this fuchi-kashira has been attributed to the Otsuki school. The Otsuki school flourished in the late Edo period under the 4th generation master craftsman Otsuki Koki in Kyoto. The feachers of Otsuki school are unique, Zen-like style with precise and solid carving techniques. This fuchi-kashira probably pepicts toys, such as fox dolls, a paper mache animal doll, shells for a shell-matching game and bells using high-level carving and inlaid color painting on a shakudo nanako surface. It is well made. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024.
