This swordsmith, Endo Mitsuoki, was born in 1904 in Niigata Prefecture. He was self-taught in that he did not have a teacher. Yamamoto Isoroku Gensui; Admiral of the Japanese Navy requested Endo Mitsuoki to make a sword in 1945. He also made many dedication swords to the shrines and temples, including Ise Shrine in Mie Prefecture. He became a Mukansa rank swordsmith from 1981, one of the highest ranks of swordsmiths by NBTHK. This sword was made when he was the age of 65 years old, a mature age. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token Shinsa in 2023. |
