Nagashima Yoshikatsu [長島義勝] was a disciple of Katsumura Norikatsu [勝村徳勝]. He worked with Masakatsu [正勝] and Nagakatsu [長勝] as swordsmith collaborators for Norikatsu. This katana has a dense jigane and a higher and gorgeous hamon consists of choji and gunome midare which has many ko-nie, a thick nioiguchi, ashi and many yo. The file marks on the nakago are thick, and the feature is in the style of Hosokawa Masayoshi [細川正義], from whom Norikatsu was given a secret book, so Yoshikatsu must have been influenced by his great master, Hosokawa Masayoshi. This blade is in good condition. This sword was featured in "Kurogane no Isho [銕の意匠] - Masterpieces of Mito Swords and Sword Fittings" and "Hagane and Irogane [鋼と色金]- Swords and Sword Fittings of Ibaraki". It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2019. |
