A netting-needle is a tool used for weaving or mending nets such as fishing nets. Made of bamboo or wood, it is flat and boat-shaped. The tip of the net needle is threaded through the mesh, scooping up the wound thread to weave. This kozuka features a shakudo base with nanako pattern surface not only omote and ura, but along the munekata, toguchi and tojiri side. The reverse features gold sogetsugi inlay. It is a highly elaborate piece of refined quality. Due to its large design, it is considered to be a later generation of the Gotō lineage. It is attributed to the 11th generation soke, Tsūjō Mitsunobu [通乗光寿], who succeeded to the family leanage in the 10th year of Genroku (1697) and added the innovative style of Machibori [町彫] carving to the traditional Gotō family style. It passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024. |
