| This kozuka depicts a scene of tiger hunting by Tatars or Mongols (Mongolian ethnic group), as seen in their clothing. The heroic figure on horseback was favored among the samurai. The dynamic poses of the tiger hunter and the hunter shooting birds backwards are conveyed. It has attributed to the 13th soke of the Gotō school, Mitsutaka (1721-1784). The eldest son of the 12th soke, Mitsumasa, he succeeded to the family headship in 1742. He led the school for the next 42 years. The gold figures exquisitely carved tiger hunting highlights the solemn beauty of the design. It passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024. |
