Hidekazu [秀一] was born in 1813 in Todoroki Village, Futago-dori (now Hanamaki City) in Mutsu Province. In 1843, he accompanied a retainer, Tochiuchi Yohei (300 koku rank) to Edo, where he became a disciple of Ishido Unju korekazu [石堂運寿是一] and trained in sword and spear forging. He returned home in 1852 after mastering forging skills. Around 1855, he became an oficial swordsmith of the Nanbu clan. He passed away in 1887. He left behind swords dated to between 1849 (Kaei 4) and 1870 (Meiji 3). This tanto is a unokubizukuri shape with mitsu-mune. It comes with an Aikuchi style koshirae with a black lacquer ishimeji-nuri saya. It has passed the Tokubetsu Hozon Token shinsa in 2025. |
