Other Info
Swordsmith Yamaguchi Kiyofusa [山口清房] is a contemporary master swordsmith. Born in 1932, he lives in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture. In 1964, he became an disciple of Living National Treasure Sumitani Masamine [隅谷正峯], and in 1969, he received his sword smithing certification. In 1970, he exhibited his work for the first time at the New Masterpiece Sword Exhibition, winning numerous special awards and, in 1986, was recognized as an Mukansa [無鑑査] swordsmith. In 1993, he was recognized as an Iwate Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property (Japanese sword-making techniques). This tanto, made by swordsmith Yamaguchi Kiyofusa at the age of 86, his mature skills age. He is now 92 years old but still has a strong passion for sword making. The sword style resemble the one made in during Enbun-Joji, Nanbokucho period, and the frequent saka-ashi on the hamon and utsuri on the jigane suggest that it was made by Aoe Tsugunao [青江次直] in mind.
