The omote/front side depicts a symmetrical peony design with alternating gold and silver overlay, while the ura/back side depicts two Sanskrit characters, likely Gundari Myoo and Konpira, overlaid with silver. The relationship between the peony, a representative of noble flowers, Gundari Myoo, who removes obstacles, and Konpira, who protects the sea and safe travels, is unknown. The tsuba features udenuki-ana holes and a shakudo rim, making it an interesting tsuba. It has been attributed to the Den-koshoami tradition and passed the Tokubetsu Kicho Kodogu sinsa In 1976. |
