Other Info
Ikeda Kazutsugu [池田一次], a resident of Shonai, was a swordsmith. He was the second son of the second Ikeda Isshu [池田一秀] and was the official metal worker of the Shonai domain. This tsuba is signed by Ikeda Kazutsugu and features a swastika [卍] in a small openwork pattern with two gourd-shaped holes. The gourd is an auspicious symbol of prosperity for descendants and good health. The swastika is a symbol of good fortune in Buddhism, originating from the Sanskrit language of ancient India. This is a tsuba with a design that is imbued with wishes.
