| Pod beans (sayamame) symbolize themes of abundance, prosperity, and the breath of life. This work skillfully depicts densely packed pod beans using the nikubori-jisukashi, high-relief carving with openwork background technique. The metalworker, Hirano Tomomichi [平野友道], was born in Mito as the second son of Hirano Tomoharu [平野友春], a disciple of Hitotsuyanagi Tomoyoshi [一柳友善], and later became independent as a Mito metalworker. It passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa in 2024. |
