Other Info
The lineage of Yukiyasu [行安] continued from in the Heian, Kamakura and Nanboku-cho periods, and to during the Muromachi period. Although, the inscription on this wakizashi is similar to that of Yukiyasu, who left behind the Oei Nenki, early Muromachi Period, this wakizashi has been attributed as a work by Yukiyasu from the late Muromachi period. The inscription on the back, "禹渡海安全秀吉與清政" in gold inlay, may mean that Toyotomi Hideyoshi [豊臣秀吉] gave it to Kato Kiyomasa [加藤清正], praying to U [禹] (the god of flood control) for a safe sea crossing. The history of this sword related to the Bunroku-Keicho War [文禄・慶長の役], but as the Hozon certificate states (there is no confirmation, but there is a mention of gold inlay), there is no evidence to back this up, but it is an attractive wakizashi. It has passed the Hozon Token shinsa in 2024.
